A Brief Guide to Maritime Strategy

by James R. Holmes

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Holmes, a professor at the US Naval War College, offers a concise introduction to maritime strategy for students and practitioners. He draws on Mahan, Corbett, Clausewitz and others to explain sea power, command of the sea, the relationship between navies and national policy, and the diplomatic uses of naval force.

It is clear, short and well organised, and it works both as a primer for newcomers and as a refresher for those who already know the classic texts.
