A World in Disarray

by Richard Haass

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Haass, then president of the Council on Foreign Relations, argues that the international order built after 1945 is fraying under the pressure of great-power rivalry, globalisation and new threats such as terrorism, pandemics and climate change.

He proposes an approach he calls World Order 2.0, in which states take responsibility for the effects of their actions beyond their borders. The book is a clear survey of global challenges from a seasoned American policymaker, written before many of them became more acute.
