China's India War

by Bertil Lintner

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Lintner, a journalist with long experience in Asia, revisits the 1962 war and argues, against Neville Maxwell, that China planned the war as part of a wider strategy rather than reacting defensively to India's forward policy. He places the war in the context of China's internal politics and its regional ambitions.

The book draws on a range of sources and is a useful counterpoint in the long debate about the war's causes. It is best read alongside Maxwell's India's China War and Nirupama Rao's The Fractured Himalaya.
