Halsey's Typhoon

by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

In December 1944 Admiral Halsey's Third Fleet sailed into a typhoon in the Philippine Sea. Three destroyers capsized and nearly 800 men died. Drury and Clavin tell the story of the storm, the rescue efforts and the court of inquiry that followed.

It is a gripping narrative of men against the sea and a study of how command decisions, including the failure to heed weather warnings, can lead to disaster without an enemy.
