Leaders Eat Last

by Simon Sinek

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Sinek argues that good leaders create a circle of safety in which people feel protected and trusted, and that this makes organisations resilient. He draws on biology, describing the chemicals that drive behaviour, and on examples from the US Marine Corps, where officers traditionally eat after their troops.

The book is persuasive and accessible, though its use of neuroscience is simplified. Its message about trust and self-sacrifice will be familiar to anyone who has served, which is perhaps why it resonates.
