Leyte

by Samuel Eliot Morison

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

This is volume twelve of Morison's History of United States Naval Operations in World War II, covering the invasion of Leyte in the Philippines and the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944, the largest naval battle in history.

As part of the official history, it is detailed and authoritative. Morison's judgements, particularly on Halsey's decision to take his fleet north after the Japanese carriers and leave the landing beaches exposed, have shaped later debate.
