Naval Warfare: A Global History since 1860

by Jeremy Black

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Black surveys naval warfare from the age of the ironclad in the 1860s to the present. Unusually for a general history, he gives attention to non-Western navies and to smaller conflicts as well as to the major powers and the world wars.

The book is broad and concise, and it makes a useful framework for placing more detailed studies of particular battles and navies.
