War & StrategyBook note
Naval Warfare in the Twentieth Century, 1900–1945
Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.
This collection of essays was assembled in honour of Arthur Marder, the great historian of the Royal Navy. Its contributors examine naval policy, strategy and operations in the first half of the twentieth century, from the Anglo-German naval race through the two world wars.
Like most essay collections it is uneven, but the best chapters offer specialist depth on subjects that general histories pass over quickly, and together they show how navies adapted to new technology and new kinds of war.
