Navies and Foreign Policy
Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.
Booth analyses the roles that navies play in support of foreign policy. He sets out a framework of three roles, military, diplomatic and policing, which is often drawn as a triangle, and explores how navies signal intentions, reassure allies and coerce adversaries.
Published in 1977, the book has been widely adopted in maritime doctrines, including India's, and it remains one of the key texts on the peacetime uses of naval power.
