Nelson's Battles

by Oliver Warner

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Warner describes Nelson's three great fleet actions, the Nile in 1798, Copenhagen in 1801 and Trafalgar in 1805, explaining the tactics, the ships and the men involved, and placing each battle in its strategic context.

It is concise and readable, and useful for understanding why Nelson's approach to battle, with its trust in subordinates, its emphasis on initiative and its aim of annihilating the enemy fleet, became so influential.
