On Strategy: A Primer
Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.
This collection of short essays, edited by Nathan Finney and published by the US Army's Combat Studies Institute, introduces the core ideas of strategy for officers and students. Contributors cover definitions of strategy, the classic theorists, the relationship between ends, ways and means, and the practical difficulties of making and executing strategy in government.
Its short chapters and clear language make it a good starting point for anyone new to the subject, and a handy refresher for those who want to return to first principles before tackling Freedman, Gray or Clausewitz.
