Strategy in the Missile Age

by Bernard Brodie

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Brodie, one of the founders of nuclear strategy, examined how nuclear weapons changed the nature of war. Building on his earlier insight that the chief purpose of military forces would now be to avert wars rather than win them, he analysed strategic bombing, deterrence and limited war.

Published in 1959, the book shaped American strategic thinking during the Cold War. It remains essential for understanding the logic of deterrence and its limits.
