Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace

by Edward N. Luttwak

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Luttwak argues that strategy follows a paradoxical logic, unlike ordinary life: the bad road may be the best route because the enemy does not expect you there, and success carried too far turns into failure. He applies this logic across the technical, tactical, operational, theatre and grand strategic levels.

The book is original, clever and sometimes difficult. It is one of the most interesting general theories of strategy and a good complement to Clausewitz and Gray.
