The Absent Dialogue

by Anit Mukherjee

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Mukherjee examines civil-military relations in India and argues that an absence of dialogue between politicians, bureaucrats and military officers has weakened military effectiveness. He looks at defence planning, procurement, professional education and jointness.

It is well researched and frank, and has become an important reference in debates on defence reform, including the creation of the Chief of Defence Staff.
