The Mask of Command

by John Keegan

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Keegan examines four types of military leadership through Alexander the Great, the Duke of Wellington, Ulysses S. Grant and Adolf Hitler. He looks at how each related to his soldiers, how he presented himself, and where he placed himself on the battlefield.

It is an original and influential study of command, and its central question, whether a leader should share the danger of his troops, remains relevant.
