The Two-Ocean War

by Samuel Eliot Morison

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Morison condenses his fifteen-volume official history of US naval operations into a single volume covering both the Atlantic and Pacific wars from 1939 to 1945. He describes the Battle of the Atlantic, the landings in North Africa and Europe, and the long campaign across the Pacific.

Morison sailed with the fleet as he researched, and his writing combines authority with a lively sense of the sea. The book is an excellent overview of the US Navy's war and a good entry point to the larger series.
