War & StrategyBook note
World War II at Sea
Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.
Symonds provides a global history of the naval war from 1939 to 1945, covering the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean. He gives attention to all the major navies, including the British, German, Italian, Japanese and Soviet as well as the American.
He pays close attention to logistics, shipbuilding and industrial capacity, arguing that these ultimately decided the outcome. It is comprehensive yet readable and is one of the best single-volume histories of the war at sea.
