A Short History of the World

by Christopher Lascelles

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Lascelles offers a brief overview of world history from the origins of humankind to the present, moving through the first civilisations, classical antiquity, the medieval world, the age of empires and the twentieth century. Timelines and maps help the reader keep the big picture in view.

The book is necessarily selective and simplified, and specialists will find gaps. Its purpose is to give a clear chronological framework into which more detailed reading can be fitted, and it does that job well.
