Army of None
Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.
Scharre, a former US Army Ranger who helped write Pentagon policy on autonomy in weapons, examines autonomous weapons and the future of war. He explains the technology, from drones and missile defence to AI targeting, and the legal, ethical and strategic questions they raise.
It is balanced and clear, written by someone who has thought about the problem from both the operational and policy sides. The book is especially good on the question of meaningful human control and on the risk that machine speed will outpace human decision-making in a crisis.
