India's China War

by Neville Maxwell

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Maxwell, a journalist who covered India in the 1960s, argues that India's forward policy along the disputed border and its refusal to negotiate provoked China, which acted defensively in 1962. He drew on the classified Henderson Brooks-Bhagat report into the defeat.

The book has been controversial in India and remains influential abroad. It is essential for understanding the debate about 1962, and as the Reading Choices notes on this site suggest, it is best read alongside books that present India's version.
