India's Wars

by Arjun Subramaniam

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Air Vice Marshal Arjun Subramaniam writes a military history of independent India's wars from 1947 to 1971, covering Kashmir, the 1962 war with China, 1965, and the liberation of Bangladesh. He draws on official sources and interviews, and pays attention to all three services.

The book is written from inside the profession, with clear accounts of operations and frank discussion of leadership failures as well as successes. It fills a gap in a field where Indian accounts are often either memoirs or narrow regimental histories.
