Making India Great

by Aparna Pande

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Pande asks why India, with its size, population and ambitions, has not yet become a great power. She looks at weaknesses in education, health, infrastructure, the economy and the state's capacity to deliver, and at how these limit India's influence abroad.

The book is frank about the gap between India's aspirations and its capabilities, and it argues that foreign policy ambitions depend on domestic reform. It is a useful corrective to over-confident narratives about India's rise.
