War & StrategyBook note
Modern Strategy
Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.
Gray sets out a general theory of strategy built on Clausewitz, organised around seventeen dimensions grouped under people and politics, preparation for war, and war proper. He then applies this framework to modern topics including nuclear weapons, irregular warfare, space and cyberspace.
The book is dense and demanding, but it is one of the most complete attempts to explain why strategy is difficult and why its fundamentals do not change with technology. It rewards slow reading.
