War & StrategyBook note
Operation X
Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.
This book tells the story of India's covert naval war in East Pakistan in 1971. Months before the formal outbreak of war, Indian naval officers trained Bengali volunteers as frogmen, who then mined and sank Pakistani shipping in Chittagong, Chalna and the river ports in Operation Jackpot.
Co-written by Captain M. N. R. Samant, who led the effort, and the journalist Sandeep Unnithan, it brings to light a little-known operation and highlights the role of unconventional naval warfare in the liberation of Bangladesh.
