Prisoners of Geography
Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.
Marshall uses ten maps to explain how geography shapes the politics and strategy of major regions and countries, including Russia, China, the United States, Europe, the Middle East, India and Pakistan, Africa and the Arctic. Mountains, rivers, seas and plains, he argues, constrain what leaders can do.
The book is accessible and engaging, and some specialists find it too deterministic. It is an excellent introduction to geopolitics for the general reader.
