Shockwave: Countdown to Hiroshima

by Stephen Walker

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Walker gives a minute-by-minute account of the three weeks before the bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, drawing on the experiences of scientists at Los Alamos, the crew of the Enola Gay, American and Japanese officials, and civilians in the city.

It is gripping and humane, and it captures both the momentum of the decision and its terrible human cost.
