The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors

by James D. Hornfischer

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Hornfischer tells the story of the Battle off Samar in October 1944, when a small group of American destroyers, destroyer escorts and escort carriers known as Taffy 3 fought off a much larger Japanese force that included the battleship Yamato.

Drawing on survivors' accounts, the book is one of the most thrilling naval narratives ever written, and a powerful account of courage and initiative against overwhelming odds.
