Vajpayee: The Years That Changed India
Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.
Shakti Sinha served as private secretary to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and he recounts the years from 1996 to 2004 when Vajpayee led India. The book covers the fragile coalitions, the nuclear tests of 1998, the Lahore bus journey, Kargil, economic reforms and the National Highways programme.
It is an insider's account, sympathetic to its subject, and particularly useful for its view of how decisions were made in the Prime Minister's Office during a turbulent period.
