We Dared

by S. N. Kohli

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Admiral S. N. Kohli was Chief of the Naval Staff during the 1971 war. In this account he describes how the Indian Navy prepared for and fought the war, including the missile boat attacks on Karachi in the west and the blockade of East Pakistan by the carrier Vikrant and the Eastern Fleet.

As a first-hand account from the top of the service, the book is an important primary source on one of the Indian Navy's finest moments and on how a relatively small navy made a decisive contribution to the outcome.
