Nimitz

by E. B. Potter

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Potter's biography of Admiral Chester Nimitz covers his early career in submarines and diesel engineering and his appointment as Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet after Pearl Harbor. It then follows the campaigns he directed, from Midway and Guadalcanal to the central Pacific drive and the surrender of Japan.

Potter knew Nimitz and had access to his papers, and the result is a detailed portrait of a steady, modest and highly effective leader. It is an essential biography for students of the war at sea.
