The Admirals

by Walter R. Borneman

Description. A short description of a book from my bookshelf, not a review.

Borneman tells the story of the four US Navy officers who reached five-star rank during the Second World War: William Leahy, Ernest King, Chester Nimitz and William Halsey. He traces their careers from the early twentieth century and shows how their very different personalities shaped the war.

The book is a lively group biography that illuminates naval leadership, rivalry and the politics of high command in Washington and the Pacific. It complements Potter's biographies of Nimitz and Burke.
